This book features 345 designs on packaging chosen by a rigorous selection procedure from the 1,110 designs submitted from all over Japan for the Japan Package Design Association's "Japan Package Design Grand Prix 2007". For the package design creators, the Price represents a special and significant challenge. As a result, this book contains a broad range of packages designed from 2004 through 2006. We are confident that this book contains the very best of package design in Japan, in particular the designs that won the Grand Prix, Golden and Silver Award, Special Judge's Award as well as the award-winners in the newly established Category Award.
In recent years the changes that have swept through the world of package design have been nothing short of dizzying. Packaging is no longer just a matter of design quality and marketability; there has been a revolution in design with innovations in printing technology, materials used, and the shapes of packages, in part driven by the increasing awareness of consumers. Package design that wants to achieve wide appeal must now take issues like usability and environment-consciousness into account, and designers need to retain a sense of passion and open-mindedness as they pursue beauty and explore new media in their efforts to improve the commercial performance of products. We take great pleasure in publishing this book, and hope that the many exciting pieces it features will giv readers a sense of the splendor of Japanese package design today.

| Con este libro verás por qué el packaging japonés tiene tanta fama... Algunos diseños te encantarán, otros te parecerán muy elegantes, y creerás que alguno es quizá más que estrambótico. |
